Amy Smith, Ph.D., has experience as a microbiologist, and a long history of working with USDA and FDA, permitting her to bring a wealth of professional experience coupled with a fresh perspective to the area of regulatory affairs with focus on probiotics. She earned a doctorate degree in microbiology from Louisiana State University in 1997, where she minored in virology and molecular biology. After a number of years conducting research on foodborne pathogens and development of rapid detection methods, Dr. Smith began a career with DuPont. Her tenure with DuPont began in food safety testing using molecular detection methods, marketed to the largest food companies in the world, and evolved into a specialized focus of testing conducted by global regulatory agencies. In 2012, Dr. Smith moved within DuPont to act as the global coordinator of regulatory affairs for DuPont Probiotics. Her ability to understand science and regulation and to translate this to real world industry, enables her to contribute to the forward-thinking probiotics industry platform and lend to the success of DuPont probiotics, all at the current pace of immense industry growth.
